Oil Base Finishes (oil modified)
Oil base is the most widely used finish by new construction builders, mostly due to price point. Oil finishes are slow drying and amber over time. Oil based finishes take 10-12 hours for the first coat to dry and we recommend a dry time of 24 hours on the final coat. With an oil base finish a screen and coat is recommended after one year.
Water Base Finishes (water modified or water borne)
Water borne finishes are typically used in remodel or homeowner occupied homes, due mostly to dry times and durability. High traffic water borne finishes are 4-5 times stronger and more durable than oil base finishes. Customers with pets and kids tend to prefer the durability of water borne finishes over oil. Also, with the average dry time being 3-4 hours there is typically no need to be out of the house overnight to let the finish dry.
Glitsa Water Borne Finish
Infinity II is one of the finishes we use to set the color of our stained floors.
Glitsa (Conversion Varnish)
Glitsa Gold Seal Lite Scent is a one-component, precatalyzed coating. To the best of my knowledge Glitsa is one of the hardest on site application finishes available on the market today. With this finish customers will be required to be out of the home for the duration of the finish and at least one day after the final coat is applied. The smell is very strong and will take several days to ventilate the home.
